Croft Place
Croft Place features 21 townhomes developed by the
nonprofit Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association and managed as
a co-housing community. Unlike other co-housing arrangements Croft Place
is composed entirely of rental units. Tenants agree to perform at least
8 hours of communal activities each month and receive access to a
Common House where they can hold meetings or special events and use
computers in the Technology Lab. The community was built on 6 acres of
wooded hillside, although through a partnership with the Seattle Parks
department 3 acres have been preserved as open space. A Cluster Housing
Planned Development Permit - intended to preserve natural features,
protect environmentally sensitive areas and encourage housing
affordability - enabled developers to "cluster" homes on smaller than
normal lots.
