Fall Creek PlaceIn 2001
the US Department of Housing and Urban Development chose Indianapolis
as a recipient of a $4 million Homeownership Zone grant, which was used
to stimulate redevelopment in a neighborhood that had earned the
nickname "Dodge City" because of its high crime rate. Fall Creek Place
replaces the neighborhood's
vacant lots and
abandoned and dilapidated homes with 482 new owner-occupied single-family homes and town homes, as well as 68
rehabilitated
properties and 9 live/work condominiums. New street lights, sidewalks,
greenways and parks complete revitalization of the 26-block area. This
mixed-income community includes market-rate units interspersed with homes affordable to buyers at or below 80 percent of the
area median income.
